This china first appeared in the beginning of the early eighteenth century.  France, Germany and Japan started producing these pieces that initially were all copies of chinese export porcelain.  The earliest copies were made to resemble the chinese porcelain since the export was an expensive and precious commodity which brought status to its' owner.  Eventually high quality domestically produced wares in western Europe and other countries begain to reflect the popular domestic aesthetic  rather than simply imitate chinese patterns.  This blue and white pattern remains very popular today.
