Measuring 10-1/2" across (26,5 cm) this octagonal plate is marked on the back "Bayeux" with a fleur-de-lis and the year 1066 (the year in which the Battle of Hasstings took place). I don't know who made this plate but it is closely related to the pottery made in Quimper and Nevers. Condition in general is good. There is some chipping along the edge and crazing of the glaze (see close-up pictures) but that is all in keeping with the age and nature of this plate. There are no cracks or hairlines and there have been no repairs or restoration. I have another similar plate on eBay now (same shape and markings but with a yellow background color and different scene). Please excuse any glares (white patches) that you may see in the pictures, these are caused by reflections of light on the glaze and are not on the actual object itself. Please note that I am located in the Netherlands (Holland) which means that this item will be shipped from Europe.
