The frigate USS Constitution was commissioned by George Washington in 1797 and earned the nickname "Old Ironsides" for action during the war of 1812. Berkey and Gay purchased original deck planks during a refit in the late 1920s, and carefully carved them into the patriotic eagles that adorn the drawer fronts of these scarce treasures, limited to 100 examples hand made from American maple. We present one of the surviving veterans in very fine, original condition, complete with metal Berkey and Gay tag and commemorative tag affixed in drawer interior.
